The Parkside Hotel
The three-story Parkside Hotel was the first commercial building in Corte Madera. It was built by Jerry Adams in 1898 (or 1901). It had a grand porch and rooms upstairs. It was originally the Adams’ Hotel and Tavern. There was a restaurant and bar downstairs where you could buy full meals for 35 cents. In 1902, the federal government wanted a post office in Corte Madera, so they put one inside the Parkside Hotel, and Jerry Adams was the postmaster. It was Corte Madera’s first post office. Jerry Adams told the government that the town was actually “Adams," not Corte Madera. This made the community members very angry and they forced Jerry Adams change the name back. Adams sold the hotel to Mr. Rea from Rea’s Pavilion.
