Picture taken in 1907. This station was built in 1905.
The Old Railroad Station and Freight Shed were located on the east side of Montecito Drive, which was once called Railroad Avenue. The railroad tracks were very dangerous and steep. The trains moved at 60 mph. A horse and buggy can reach speeds of about 8 – 10 mph. The North Pacific Coast Railroad set its tracks through Corte Madera. Flatbeds hauled lumber, and passenger trains serviced commuters to San Francisco. Corte Madera was the first railroad station between Sausalito and San Rafael. Unfortunately, The station burned down about 1904 when someone apparently started a fire inside however a new train station was rebuilt in 1905.
